The Oak Leaf Bench

It started as an acorn of an idea and grew from there…

Mansfield Museum asked students from a local college how their museum could be improved upon in their eyes. The children suggested that a bench or seat would be a valuable asset in the gallery space, somewhere to sit to allow quiet contemplation.

I was supplied with a very rough sketch of a square bench and asked if I could make it more "organic". Thinking of the local area and its close proximity to Sherwood Forest, an oak leaf seemed the natural choice. Initially, I collected a selection of oak leaves and the leaf design gradually emerged.
